Hi, Unfortunately the link doesn't seem to work ? I get the error message 404 Page not found on Hightail.com ? Thanks

    Renewed the link.

What happened to the Service Tag?

Create a bootable USB drive using Rufus

    You can also choose MS-DOS.

Once created, boot on to it, type:flash and then hit the ENTER key and wait. reboot when complete.

You can quickly check if you need to update the BIOS by clicking on the Start button and entering msinfo32 into the "Search programs and files" box. Then hit Enter to run it.
Look about a third of the way down the System Summary page for the BIOS Version/Date entry. If it says Dell Inc. 1.0.18 then you have the latest version and shouldn't need to update it. Could save you doing the above process....
There's still a small configuration change to make to accept the SSD though.

I suggest that the OP flashes the BIOS regardless...for the reasons I gave in post #40.

You could use both, but separately Process Explorer and Process Monitor.

They are available free from MS, but dont just grab these, grab the whole suite.

Use youtube to train you how to use them.

    Hi

My SSD drive arrived this morning, just waiting for the SATA cable, then I can start the process to add the drive

Victor, I checked the BIOS, it said Dell Inc 1.0.13 20/03/2008
So doesn't look like the correct version ?

Nifty digits, I don't know why, but the second link also doesn't load ?

    Thanks guys

This site adds a redirect to links. So you are going to have to right click on the link, copy it, paste it into an address bar and remove the portion of the link before https... if it does it again.

May I remind you this is the third time that I have asked you for the Service Tag of the machine?

It looks like it would be worth applying the BIOS update. The page linked to above will (as well as telling you your Service Tag code) allow you to download and install the BIOS update as well, if you continue to have trouble with the link supplied.

I know that you are trying to be helpful, but do you mind not getting involved with my instructions?
It's the second time that you've done it.
