I have just made a carob cake and its awful! I thought it might taste like choc cake but it doesn't! Has anyone any advice on what I can do with it? I thought about a black forest gateau type trifle?
Thanks in anticipation...:)

My sympathies. I tried making carob cake and it was just disgusting. Afraid I cant suggest anything moneysaving - mine went in the bin.:wave:0

Exactly how yuk is it? If you make it into something else that might be yuk, too, and then you've wasted time and ingredients there.
I don't often say this, but it might be a treat for the birds

Never believe anybody who tells you that carob is a good substitute for chocolate. The only similarity is the colour. Anyway why would anybody want to substitute chocolate?0

I got conned into buying it from DD (teenager) along with other Gillian Mckeith horrors. Nearly bought quinoa but thankfully saved from the wallpaper paste by my friend who said it was horrible.
Might go to feed the ducks tomorrow...;)Save £12k in 2012 no.49 £10,250/£12,000

I have a carob cake recipe I have followed many times, mostly with chocolate but several times with carob powder and it's lovely. It has a thick topping which I suppose covers up any peculiar taste - we certainly haven't had any problem. The topping is: 4 oz Chocolate (also supposed to be carob) melted and left to cool for a few mins, then stir in 2 oz natural yoghurt and spread over.
I've made choc cake with choc topping, or carob cake with choc topping, not noticed much difference.0 -
If you leave the cake to go a bit stale then put it in a bowl and pour hot chocolate milk over it it's lovely. Most men lead lives of quiet desperation and go to the grave with the song still in them.
