Self assessment query

Hi there

I'm just filling out my tax return for 2014/2015.

I was self employed from 13th April 2014 till 12th December 2014 and then went on maternity leave and still am on mat leave. Prior to this I have always been employed. When I finished my contract on 12th Decembe, I notified HMRC and NI that I was no longer SE. I do not plan on going back to SE or employment when mat leave ends.

Now I have my tax return calculation and it has my balance to pay followed by estimated payment on account for 2015/2016 to be paid in 2 instalments!!?? Is this right even though I am no longer SE?? I shouldn't have to pay this when I'm neither SE or PAYE?

Any advice would be so appreciated!!

A very worried tax returner!

Thank you!

IIRC you can over-ride the 'estimate' box with a zero, and there's another box where you put in a reason for the revision.

Perhaps the Cutting Tax part of the forum would have more people who can advise you?

Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).
  • Hi - There should be a place within the tax return to apply to reduce your payments on account. In your case I guess you should reduce them to nil - assuming you are sure there will be no liability what-so-ever for the 2015/16 year.

A quick check would have revealed that the OP has already posted over on the Tax forum, and reply given.
