Gifted deposit from dad abroad but no address proof

Hi all,,

My dad is giving me a deposit from abroad (dubai). The money has been in a UK bank account (his) for over a year and he has proof of this. I have a letter to say the money is a gift and he doesn't want it back etc. Our solicitor wants proof of his address but anyone that has been or lived there knows they don't have an address!! They get their post by po box. This is on all his utility bills, bank statements etc so I cannot prove his address except for his po box. Our mortgage is with Halifax, will they accept his ID if just a po box? We cannot be the only people doing this. He is having to have his passport photocopied and certified by a uk law society solicitor in dubai and now our solicitor wants his address certified!

This question should be directed at your solicitor.

We can say what we want on here, but if your solicitor will not accept the situation they will not complete the purchase.

Does your dad trust you enough for him to put the money in your account ? if not ask a family member to do it
  • My solicitor has panicked as we live in a small hick town. I told her at the time of instructing her a month ago of the situation and now she is asking for proof of address after I supplied her with the documents she asked for.

Yes but I still have to prove his address for anti money laundering as I have not had the money for over a year.
