Went into Woolworths in Northampton today, found some fairly good prices on kitchen utensils, seem to be offering 50% off lots of lines
Top quality stainless steel chef's knives, all in stainless steel, including the handles, down from £5.99 to £2.99
A chrome utensil holder with a full set of chrome utensils, including fish slice, slotted spoon etc. down from £9.99 to £4.99
Not breath-takingly cheap, I know, but if it's something you happen to need anyway, it's a bargain!
Had a look in the closing down Index shop, too - not much left!

LOL! you do not get top quality chefs knifes for £5.99!! you do not get a top quality chefs knife for £25.99....a decent set of chefs knives worthy of being called top quality will set you back at least £600....£2.99 top quality...ha ha ha0 -
Anyone know the cheapest place to get the Richardson Sheffield Ltd: 'Forever Sharp' Knives ?
These were reccommended in a Which report but the cheapest i ever saw was £80 for the block and set in the Allders sale (down from £100)0 -
For home "chefs" I don't see any need to pay £600!. I bought a set of knives about 6 years ago for £9.99. They are used daily for food preparation and keep a sharp edge well. Even if they all needed replacement today I don't see any need to pay more than £9.99 again. The brand is Messer0

I don't know whether you missed something about this forum, but it's actually a place where people are looking for bargainsLOL! you do not get top quality chefs knifes for £5.99!! you do not get a top quality chefs knife for £25.99....a decent set of chefs knives worthy of being called top quality will set you back at least £600....£2.99 top quality...ha ha ha
In my opinion (and with all due respect, of course
) anybody that shells out six hundred quid of their own money for a set of knives to use at home is an idiot. They're certainly not a Moneysaving Expert!
These knives are made by the Creative Chef Company, and it's their Hi Carbon Stainless Steel Professional Knife Series. In my opinion they're a bargain providing, as mentioned previously, it's something you already needed to buy
As regards paying £600 or more, the sets of chef's knives in their own metallic carrying cases go through at my local auction on a regular basis, new, for £40 to £80 a set. Can't vouch for the quality, though, as I would never pay that much for a set of knives

er no sorry. If you pay £600 for chef's knives then you obviously can't be one.
The main chef used knive in current kitchens are the Global range costing you about £25 - £65 per knive. A decent range of everyday knives for a professional would set you back about £250 - all in. You don't need 20 knives in a chefs range, just 5 or 6 will do all jobs you really need them for.
One of the chefs here did pick up some of the Woolies ones and yes they are ideal for general usage. They probably won't last more than 6 months of continuous use but the blades are solid and easy to keep sharp, so who cares. In domestic use they will last several years so would be perfect.
Well spotted Roger and get them while you can -a good knive at a very reasonable price.0 -
Now now lets not get off the point here. Thanks Roger I really wanted to but the utensil set when they were on offer at Christmas but then they suddenly dissapeared! Now i'm gonna pop into town after work tomorrow and see if I can buy them and a set of knifes, cool. Thanks again!0

Glad to be of help!

We already had two of the chrome utensil holders in our kitchen, and they were becoming extremely overcrowded, so we wanted another chrome utensil holder anyway. As it was, we have also ended up obtaining a fairly decent set of utensils, and all at a quite reasonable price. So we're happy!
