    No it isn't. BTW, I read somewhere that if you compare both UK and US SS pensions, that the US one is quite a bit more.

    That won't do as an explanation: various firms tried to make a business of it and found that the punters just wouldn't buy. As you'd expect with a free market, the explanation lies with the (non-) customers, not the providers.

    As you imply, that's a bonkers objection: whenever I pay VAT it's on money that's already paid income tax. Except the VAT on petrol, for instance, because that's charged on money that's already been taxed twice (first income tax, and then duty).
