Civil Service Alpha or Partnership?

I believe public sector workers are no more or less worthy than private sector workers. If a nurse decides to leave the NHS and take up work in a private hospital, she hasn't lost her soul - she's just making a living like anyone else.
Public services just don't exist to provide a living for the individual concerned, the right people correctly remunerated can contribute to the greater good immeasurably over their working life.
Look at the bigger picture. Are you !!!!!! from the internet...? (http://dilbert.com/strip/2015-06-07)
Lets try and keep this civil shall we?
If I've misconstrued your view, I apologise.
As others have said on this thread, there is a widely held viewpoint by some in the private sector that just because their pensions have become worthless than everybody in the public sector must suffer also. The race to the bottom may make the aggrieved private sector employee feel better, but it doesn't necessarily give us the first world public services we're accustomed to.“Britain- A friend to all, beholden to none”. 🇬🇧0 -
When did you exit the LGPS? OK, you've said you benefit from the 85 year rule (which other things equal you'd want to keep, obviously), however is it outside the range of maintaining the final salary link? (5 years - which isn't to say you'd necessarily want to keep a final salary link...)
I left LGPS 31/3/2011. I've never heard of the '5 year range' - as the pension is deferred until I'm 60 I still have another 7 years before I can draw it. I get an annual update on the value of the pension which has an RPI(?) increase added each year, so the value of the pension is still linked to my final salary. Can you explain more? How am I affected?
Thanks for replying.0 -

CPI now, though that's no different from the PCSPS.Can you explain more? How am I affected?
Sorry, what I meant was: the maximum five year gap to have a Club transfer whereby you would exchange your LGPS DB for a special final salary service credit in Alpha. To be honest, I'm not sure what would happen to the NRA (*) - it would be worth checking with the civil service scheme administrator. In a nutshell, if your current rate of pay is noticeably higher than the rate of pay (allowing for inflation) you left the LGPS with, then it might be worth transferring even if you lost the ability to go at 60 without actuarial reductions. (This wouldn't necessitate staying in Alpha, just being in long enough to transfer.)
(*) Historically, an LGPS member maximally benefiting from the 85 year rule (or its predecessor) only got what was the standard NRA of the PCSPS, so that someone who transferred a civil service DB to the LGPS would lose their lower default NRA. However, to reflect the fact s/he would get a larger service credit.0 -
femalemonarchfemalecanine, Tromking and kidmugsy - ladies and gentlemen, I do believe we have collectively made a very good effort to derail the OP's thread, which was rather impolite. I think we should just knock it on the head, don't you?0
