Returning from overseas

We are UK Citizens who have recently been overseas in New Zealand for 3 and 1/2 years. We kept the same UK bank account whilst abroad which we have now had for 10 years and the same UK credit card which we have had for 15 years. Before going to NZ we had a UK mortgage and excellent credit rating. I worked full time in NZ and we bought a house with a mortgage there without an issue. We are both in Professional jobs in the UK with a combined income of over £70k. Ever since we returned to the UK 12 months ago we have found it impossible to get favourable lending terms for a mortgage (despite 30% deposit), cheap car insurance and today the headline interest rate for a car loan, from the bank that we have out credit card with (which has always been paid off in full on time every month).
Does anyone else have a similar experience or can anyone recommend a lender who would be prepared to offer us good terms?

When you say you haven't been able to get favourable lending terms, do you mean you have been accepted by potential lenders but just not at the most competitive rates?

If you have only been back in the UK 12 months then it is likely this will be seen as one sign of instability by potential lenders. Which in turn is likely to impact on the rates you may be offered.

Have you obtained copies of your credit reports from the 3 credit reference agencies to check what they show is accurate? Presumably you are registered on the electoral roll?
