Constant back spasms

A fellow back sufferer here.
I second the walking, strength training etc. - definitely avoiding jogging and running for now. It just jolts the joints too much. some Pilates exercises are ok but some do put a strain on the Lower back. Swimming, especially breast stroke, can aggravate back pain.
Definitely see a specialist, and if you've not had one then get some x-Rays done.
I refused surgery because I was told there was a 50-50 chance that it could make matters worse. I didn't fancy the odds so declined.
For me regular Physio helps enormously. I do pay though because the NHS would only fund 6 sessions.
Watch your posture and try to keep as active as the pain will allow. Too much rest is as bad as not enough rest. For pain relief - well I think that's trial and error. You might need to experiment a bit. Incannot take most pain relief because they all seem to,affect my stomach so I look to comp, ementary meds, aromatherapy etc.
I make do with Physio, gentle daily stretching, some yoga, some Pilates, walking when I can and strength training. Heat works well, so a soak in a warm bath with Epsom salts, a hot water bottle or a lavender wheat bag, muscle rubs such as tiger balm or lavender oil (diluted in a carrier oil). Those heat patches help too.0
