My Toshiba won't complete updates??

I have recently got a Toshiba Portege R830-1JV laptop running W7 Professional. As a new bit of kit, it needed about 175 updates, which obviously takes a while.
I have tried allowing the updates 4 times and I keep getting the error Failed to configure Windows updates. There are still 117 updates waiting but I am at a loss what to do next. Any thoughts??
I run AVG security, I think that is all I have managed to put on it so far as reversing the changes, takes a lifetime

If you still have problems, try the fix it tool to fix problems with windows updates :-

And...try a group (say 10) at a time...If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.0

Thank you all for the pointers. It mostly worked when I disabled AVG, then when I tried again with a smaller batch, all but two updated, I'm sure I can live with that. You'll probably find the 2 that didn't update will work eventually, after a reboot or 2...Or give the update number here (KB...)If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.0
