Do Invisalign prices vary?

I've had my first appointment tonight about invisalign. I was quoted £5200 which seemed very expensive to me. I am just wondering if prices vary much and if it's worth trying other places before completely ruling out the idea.

Thanks

There are many different orthodontic systems , each of which has its advantages and disadvantages. The best, most adaptable and cheapest is conventional "train tracks" type of braces . You can even have white brackets and wires to make them less obvious.

Invisalign is very expensive because the company charges the dentist a set fee for the retainers . The fee varies according the complexity of the case because a more complex case will need more retainers. The lab fees start at £1800 for very limited children's cases to well over £4000. The dentist then has to add their expenses and profit on top of that. So a complex case can easily cost the sort of money you are talking about.

It is unlikely then that you can find Invisalign cheaper but you should discuss with your orthodontist about the costs of other systems. You should always chose an orthodontist who specialises in braces , rather than a general dentist who can only offer one system , to get a view of the different systems, their advantages and disadvantages.
  • I think you should consult some other efficient and board certified dentist. I had also been prescribed for the invisalign 2 months ago from a North York-based Family Tree dental clinic, but it wasn't that expensive as you've quoted in the thread.

I went to an invisalign specialist now called mismile (was smile stylist). I went to an open day where they had special offers and they were doing 'complex case' for £4195, did a special open day offer of £500 off this and allowed me to pay this 0% interest over 12 months (also could have done 6 or 10 months, or could pay over longer but no longer 0%). This was in 2013 I started I think though so you would expect prices to rise.

The most likely reason for that though, is that your treatment is less complex that OP's - not because this practice is cheaper.

I would agree with Brook. Costs for Invisalign tend to be more fixed than other systems, simply because most of the work is done by the company. It is best to see a dentist who offers a wide range of systems, an best of all - see a specialist orthodontist.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.
