Overdraft with Abbey

I've signed up for a new current account with Alliance & Leicester but still have my overdraft with abbey. I've applied through the premier switching service but I'm having difficulty getting an overdraft for the same amount £500 as I'm always into my overdraft by the time my statemtn is sent out (Alliance are saying they need to see a statement showing me in credit not in the overdraft). Can I still switch to Alliance & Leicester and pay of my overdraft with Abbey over a few months?? Has anyone else had this problem I'm pretty worried about it at the moment, I dont want to stay with Abbey (Having difficulties trying to reclaim charges hence the move to alliance) but dont know how to handle the overdraft problem....

  • You can transfer you overdraft if you are in a credit for at least a few days a month. It doesn't matter if you are overdrawn at the time your statement goes out. Have A & L offered you an overdraft? I requested an overdraft and received £500 automatically and then applied to have it increased to the same level as my old account.

I appiled online and they sent me a pack saying that the minimum they would offer is £250 but if I had an overdraft they would match it if I sent them a statement. So I sent it off and I then received another letter asking for a copy statement. I ended up ringing them and they said they had received it but would need to see a statement showing me in credit??? I'm usually in credit for 3 weeks of the month so I dont understand it. Shall I just try sending another statement and see what happens after that?

Their response doesn't make sense. I went through the same process as you sent off my bank statements (only about a week in credit a month) and got the same overdraft as my old account. How many statements did you send? I think when I did it I had to send three months of statements. I may be wrong. I would suggest ringing them and explaining that you think you have met their criteria.
