Remortgage and transfer of equity

Hi, this is the only forum I actually trust for a real answer to this!
Right so I've applied for a remortgage with my partner (with extra borrowing to buy my ex partner out) all went well with the mortgage application and just waiting for the paperwork to be sent out.
But what happens now and at what point will my ex have to be involved??
I know I need a solicitor for transfer of equity but does this need to be started before the mortgage is fully in place? Im worried il have to pay for a solicitor and then there will be an issue with the mortgage.
Any advice appreciated
