Hiya
I am posting on behalf of a relative.
She's employed by a child minder and they have said they will pay her in cash and at the end of the year she will have to notify the tax man to pay any tax due.
Is this legal? she is definitely employed not self employed
thanks

I'd always thought it was self employed and anyone employed must have a traceable payment made, The above link may help though.0 -
Who is paying her NI? As far as I am aware, it is legal for employees to be paid in cash, but tax and NI should be deducted first.
Does she receive a payslip? What does her contract or terms and conditions of employment say regarding pay?0 -
Is she registered as self-employed with HMRC? I think that's what you need to do first.ally.0

Hi Thanks for the replies.
She's not even getting a payslip or is sure of her hourly rate. Seems like a total con or someone taking on employees for the first time. I'm not sure which but I think I will have to get involved to sort it out. She's working 3 hours per day, five days a week to top up another part time job with the local authority. Are there any good guides I could print out for the "employer" to show what she should be doing?
Many thanksThe Cabbage
