Borrow against house - how soon after buying

in Mortgages & endowments
How soon after buying / inheriting a house, and it being solely in your name, can you borrow against?

I have heard six months. I don't believe this is a law but may be a requirement of the lender

Has anybody any experience or knowledge in this?

    6 with most lenders, 12 with some, same day is possible.
