Resignation Method

When you resign, do you normally just go in hard and hit emwith your written notice cold / straight out the blue!

Or do you tend to drop subtle hints, or even verbally sayso. Before following up a week later with official written notice?

Just interested in how others have handled the situation?

last time i resigned, a good number of years ago I just went into the managers office with my letter and had a chat with him. Didn't drop hints before, or tell anyone i was thinking about it.

I'd normally have it written and ask for a chat with the relevant line manager and then as soon as I;m back at my desk hit the send button (its been done by email for the last decade or so)

Obviously if your looking to renegotiate your existing role instead of actually wanting to leave the strategy may be slightly different

No hints or anything, just went on one morning and handed my letter to my Line Manager and explained I was leaving. The big boss phoned for an unrelated matter a few minutes later so I advised her that I had handed my resignation in and had given the letter to X.

I resigned last month. Found the manager, handed her my envelope and said "it's my resignation". Time before that I'd been offered a job and needed my current manager to give me a reference so I had to tell her at that stage.

Last occasion it happened there was No hints, I had been contracting for a firm for 6 months and they decided to offer me a perm job.

A few days later I asked my Line manager for a quick word, told him the numbers wouldn't work as Perm for me, and if there is no movement I am off he said FairPlay there is no movement on numbers.

I hate it when they ruin a great contact by offering permie.

Why on earth would you mess around dropping hints?

Either OP is a girl or he thinks working for a company is some kind of marriage. Not sure.
