My daughter is starting 1st year in September and we are gonna need to get a computer/laptop for her.We all have iPads,so haven't had a computer at home for years.
Does anyone have any recommendations on what to get that will be adequate for all the work she will be doing over the next few years,i.e. make, model, programs, software, hardware, storage, etc, etc, etc!!!
Or should we just ask the school :)

Hi, for schoolwork you dont need anything particularly fancy. I had to buy a laptop last Nov for my daughter in lower 6th and son in 2nd year. I bought an Acer aspire out of Tesco for £250. Its more than adequate for both of them however it has no disc drive which I miss.

Don't let anyone talk you into buying Microsoft Office because any employee of the education board or student is entitled to a free download of the entire suite as long as they have an @c2kni email address. Your daughter should have this email address enabled at primary school although it may have to be enabled again at secondary school, it will be the same address.

This isnt an NI board question
  • Would you consider a refurbish laptop from a reputable person (No not me but there are companies out there that do it) PC world do them for about £170+ and usually come with a 12 month warranty and I'm sure there are lots of others out there too..

How do you apply for the Office under this deal then?
