If your total income (from whatever source) in any tax year exceeds the standard personal allowance, then you pay tax on the excess amount. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0

Whats the allowance or is it different for everyone ?
Everyone has a personal allowance £10,600 unless you are very old in which case you get a bit more.
There are other allowances ie for pension contributions and there are reductions to your allowances if you have a benefit in kind ie a company car.The only thing that is constant is change.0
