Bread Bin

Options
Hope there's someone out there who can help. DH and I both love going to visit old houses, and when we wee at Lanhydrock earlier this month DH said that what he'd really like is on old fashioned bread bin (a bit like this one).

I've been looking online for a new one, without success. It needs to have a lit that sits on top, rather than one that "clamps" over the top, like a more modern tin, IYSWIM

TIA, Penny. x

I'm trying to get ones like that for my (hopefully) new venture, original old ones but the prices go daft after a while. Old ones though tend to be cheaper. Try professional cookware company as they do some retro stuff there, or lakeland.

I was lucky and managed to find one in a charity shop. I've seen a couple since so it is worth looking.
I visited Lanhydrock last year. What a fantastic place. The kitchens and all the food preparation rooms were the most amazing I have seen anywhere.
Thank you for this site :jNow OH and I are both retired, MSE is a Godsend

There are loads on websites Nigella is doing one I believe and there are loads of copies about. I found mine at a car boot sale and paid £2 for it! I have also seen them at antique fairs and shops but they tend to be about £20!!

Keep scouring chairty shops as well .Good luck!!

I got mine - an original 1920s enamel version with black lettering - for £4 from a house clearance / junk shop on the outskirts of Liverpool. I have seen them for sale for about £40 in 'proper' antique shops.

Labour and Wait (www.labourandwait.co.uk) is a too-die-for site for vintage kitchenware and household stuff. Bit pricey, though.

    Good luck with the search!

What a fantastic site :T though the name makes me think of Birthing Accessories :rotfl:

Not found anything there that's quite right, but DH would love this dustpan and brush, so that's one gift for him sorted.

Thanks for all your other suggestions - I'll be looking in charity shops first (why didn't I think of that  ) and if I'm not successful, there's plenty of choice here.

    OSers are fab :A
