Universal Jobmatch

Hi all,
I have my first meeting at the Jobcentre on thursday to claim Universal credit.
I have recieved a letter telling me what to take ( eg Identification etc..) in the letter it says for me to register with Universal Jobmatch and to take my log in details with me.
Do I have to do this? Is it mandatory? Also, if I don't get a Universal Jobmatch account will I be sanctioned/ not recieve my first Universal Credit payment?
Thanks
Kelly.

In reply to the questions in your final paragraph. The answer is potentially "Yes" on all counts. There would have to be very good reasons for non-compliance for sanctions not to be applied.0

You are meant to have an account, however you should not be sharing your log in details with anyone. They have no right to ask for log in details (as that would include a password that should be kept private and safe).
You also do not need to give them permission to access the account. They cannot sanction you for it despite what some claim. It is against the data protection act and therefore they cannot force you to give permission.0 -

So it is mandatory for me to open a Universal Jobmatch account and ALSO allow DWP permission to access the account?
Thanks

Technically, yes, you do have to open an account. You can then apply for jobs on there which you should be doing.
And no. You do not have to allow permission!0 -

just log 'activities' of your normal work searches, done elsewhere.breathe in, breathe out- You're alive! Everything else is a bonus, right? RIGHT??0

If you're not going to allow them access to UJM, and I didn't, then you need to find other ways to demonstrate your job search. I said that for me UJM was not fit for purpose so I registered with indeed and various other agencies which were far more useful. I also set up an email just for job hunting and showed them print outs from there of job hunting activities. You need physical evidence of job searches, records if applications, interviews etc. If you play the game and show willing they're more likely to leave you alone to get on with it rather than setting stupid targets. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -

Many thanks, I am going to do a similar thing. Dont want all and sundry knowing my details as could be a victim of ID fraud.0 -
On my UJM account, there are sections for applying to jobs via the site- best avoided, unless employer info is known..
and also 'activity log' - add an entry for each search, or application you have made-
eg, searched through papers at the library..
Applied for xyz job at 123 firm..
I have not added a CV, and no one at JCP has queried it so far!breathe in, breathe out- You're alive! Everything else is a bonus, right? RIGHT??0
