Babyliss Perfect Curl

I bought one of these today and even though I know it will take a few practice do's to get it 'right' I am really chuffed with it. I love the finished effect.

But the cost £120.00! I did think it through and as Im getting married soon and wanted it to do my hair for the wedding plus my sisters and nieces Im of the thought that if the 3 of us went to the hairdressers then that would be almost as expensive so I figured it was worth the cost.

But even though Im pleased with it I was looking at it and started thinking 'How can something so simple and small cost so much. When you consider you can buy a decent toaster, kettle and iron and still have change from £120.00.

Are we really so obsessed with hair and vanity that we will pay the asking price for a 'gimmicky' item?

My friend borrowed one for her hen night the other weekend and her hair looked amazing; the curls lasted all afternoon, evening, she then slept and they looked fab for the rest of the next day.

I would LOVE to be able to afford one of those but firstly my hair doesn't even touch my shoulders at the moment and secondly I just don't have that to spend :( but you are right, I don't know what it is about hair and beauty that makes all money sense get thrown out the window haha

    Enjoy it :)

These look so fiddly- are they really that easy to use? How does it work with the back of your head where unless you have a mirror you can't see anything?
My sister would love something like this but my last attempt at buying a Babylis hair tool (I bought a curling wand about 5 years ago) ended up sat in a box after about 3 months because it took about 45 mins to curl my chin length hair (you have to hold each clump for about 2 minutes if you want to get the curl to stay any longer than 2-3 hours) and despite being very fine I seem to have a lot more hair than I thought I had!

They do look good, I contemplated getting one when they were the TSV on QVC a couple of weeks ago. I think they were £99 then and on easy pay. And of course you can try it out and send it back if you don't like it. Back up to £135 now :(

My hair long and straight and that how it stays - it barely sees a hairdryer as it is :rotfl: There's no chance of me buying any curling implements, all seems like too much hassle and time-consuming. I just can't be bothered.

i dont see it as gimmiky, i love mine it gives me curls that i dont get from tongs, rollers etc and they last

over the years ive bought a couple of hot roller sets, tongs, curling wands etc so now i will never need to buy any more curling devices as this works perfectly and will save me money in the long run as i wont buy anymore tongs etc which dont work well in my hair

Ive used it twice and Im quite surprised how easy it is. I think the secret is to just do small strands at a time. The roller takes the hair in and then beeps 4 times to tell you to release it.

The first time I thought it was quite cumbersome doing the back especially as you have to have the curlers always facing a certain way but the good thing is that it doesn't really matter about doing it in a precise order. The curl is that good that its easy to see which bits have been done and which have not so you can tell if you have missed a bit by feeling the hair at the back if that makes any sense. When it comes out of the curler you literally have a ringlet, its only when you tousle the hair or brush through it that the curls loosen. It looks very different after brushing than if you just run your fingers through so there is loads of choice style wise.

My hair is fine and just past shoulder length and it takes about 20 mins to do it all.

Another thing I like is that the hair does not have to be newly washed so even on a bad hair day a quick curl up and hair looks 'done'.

Mine also looks a lot thicker with the bounce. Im still amazed that I spent that much on a hair product but if I could take it back for a refund I wouldn't do it as I really love it.

When I first used it yesterday I just loosened the curls with my fingers. After sleeping it still looked good this morning and after a brushed it I still had a lovely style.

As someone whos spent a fortune on straighteners, heated rollers, curling brushes and all kinds of weird and wonderful things over the past 30 years and still never been happy with my hair I honestly think its a really good buy.

I have one, but find it takes ages - ok for a special occasion, but too long and drawn out for everyday use. I've gone back to using a gas tongs for daily use.
  • Just a quick bump for this, any other experiences? I'm thinking of buying one but it's a big investment :)

Also does it affect the condition of your hair at all? Mine is inclined to be a bit frizzy in the winter time and I'm worried about something like this drying it out and making it worse. And do you need to straighten your hair before you curl it if it's already curly (or frizzy lol). Any advice or info very welcome

I can't comment on this product (some of us are blessed with natural curls :D) but based on the performance of the Babyliss Big Brush I would go ahead and buy it. This one device has made my wild hair quick and easy to style without using product or creating frizz, I think they've managed to crack the formula!

I got it a year ago on a v good offer. It's effective in that it gives nice sleek curls but it's fiddly and a bit heavy. It only does little bit of hair at a time so it's slower than my curling wand and the waving wand. I ought to properly practice it though. Look out for B.F. deals tomorrow perhaps.
