SolarEdge Monitoring Portal

I was disappointed with the Solaredge monitoring portal as it only had basic info on the screen and there didn’t appear to be a way of utilizing the info. On investigation I find that there is an Admin login, but this would appear to be for the installer, news to me that the installer can do more on my system than I can!

I see from the Solaredge online pdf’s and my screen that all I have at the top of my screen are tabs for Dashboard and Layout, but if you have Admin rights you have extra tabs for Chart, Reports, Alerts and Admin. Plus there is also a revenue calculation part within the portal.

I am just wondering if anyone else has come across this and whether they managed to get Admin access via their installer, although I believe the installer has one admin login/password for all their installed sites, so its not going to be that easy.

It just seems a bit odd that the Installer can do more on the performance analysis than I can.

Any thoughts?

You can ask your installer for the necessary rights, for them it's just a push button thing, nothing complicated.

If they refuse, which they have no need to do, then SolarEdge support have been great.

    Hi Mark,
As theboylard says really, speak to CTS mate, they can make the admin happen and yes there is more to see but it still only updates every 15 minutes.
I only check mine to make sure everything is working fine, it is nice to see when one panel goes in to shade that the rest continue when using the playback

If you really want to make the most of the generation then it might be worth looking into monitors, something that clips around the tails of your import meter, these can be far more accurate and update in seconds

Of course all this boils down to cost and how much you NEED that latest boy toy......just ask theboylard...lol

Hi Tunnel and Theboylard. Many thanks for replys. I will talk to CTS and go from there. It was only that i could see that you could get more info, but did'nt know how. Like you say Tunnel, the downside is it only updates every 15 minutes. I wonder if that will ever change that???

I just pass the info to PVOutput, they do the clever stuff!

The SolarEdge portal is a freebie and is guaranteed for 25 years from install (although looking at Enecsys, that means diddly squat if they go belly up).
By making it free, it means they don't have to put much effort into the monitoring package (hardware, software, support etc).
In their eyes, 15 mins resolution of the data is fine, and it is, for most people.
Commercial users though, and sad gits like me, want more.

SolarEdge finally published their API last year, which allows you to take the data they make available and do all sorts of clever stuff with it. But you only had access to certain parameters and within set limitations.

The 15 minute limit was set by the number of calls you could make on the API, which was set at a max of 200 calls in 24hrs.

It has changed now, it's how you call the API that makes the difference.

I'm not a coder by any stretch, and I'm not a fan of reinventing the wheel.
I'm happy for folk far smarterer than me to do sexy things with the info I can give them, and so far, Bankstownbloke at PVOutput appears to be one of the good guys.

He's given us some fantastic tools for free, and if you want more, you can ask him. One of the regulars on here was instrumental in getting SolarEdge support on PVOutput, and for that I'm grateful to them both.

As of about a month ago, SolarEdge gave some viagra to their published API, and you could then call on the API more than you could previously and get at more data.

As SolarEdge have updated their API, so PVOutput support has recently been updated and now allows for 5 minute intervals at 5 minute updates.

But it comes at a cost - the extra functionality is only available to donors to PVOutput - which is fair as it's an expensive to site to run.

The donation required is not massive, but it only lasts for a year, so could end up costing a fair bit?

Can't get mine to work with pvoutput.

When I type the following in a browser I get 403 Access Forbidden

    https://monitoringapi.solaredge.com/site/XXXXXX/details.json?api_key=XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Could there be a problem with the API or am I doing something wrong?
    I think....

Sorted, asked solar edge and they sent me a different api key that works - and I had spent ages thinking I was doing something wrong.
    I think....
