Travelcards useless?

  • Definitely use contactless if you can. Next best is PAYG Oyster (you can set up auto-top-up too, but then you ALWAYS have money on the card that can't be used for other stuff).
    It's only numbers.

Looks like you're making the whole journey using only one means of transport.

A lot of people would have to use a combination, e.g. a train followed by a tube journey. In that case the peak and off-peak costs would be £5.40 and £4.20 - £48 per week.
Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning

    What macman said...

For me, coming in from Zone 3; PAYG is cheaper if I only use the trains and walk between station and office. As soon as I make one extra train journey (or 1.5 bus journeys) in the month; then a Monthly Travelcard is better value. Plus the flexibility of jumping on a bus if it's rainy/ SouthEastern have delivered me to a different station because of a problem/ going to visit a client elsewhere in Zone 1.

I guess contactless would work equally well if I got any cashback for it.
I need to think of something new here...
