Pop into a reputable games retailer, the vast majority of them have prepaid top up cards available - whilst it's possible to buy them on ebay or amazon you're safer doing it in store. Never keep any vast amounts of money in your account, get enough for what you need & you'll be fine as you'll minimise your exposure to risk.

As for who's doing it, probably a collective of bored people with little better to do with their time than annoy others & "expose security flaws"

Yes it'll be the same sort of people who write computer virus, or for that matter - as we're talking about gaming - the idiots who decided to launch the attack last Christmas on Xbox live and PSN.....................people who frankly need to get a life and should be pitied rather than hated (Then given a good slapping)

Specifically though, those hacking Sony accounts are at a guess likely to be younger computer savvy spoilt gits who think they are entitled to get something for nothing at the expense of others.

Buy an amount you can afford to lose, have a look on cdkeys as could be cheaper than the high street shops.

I don't think it's hackers or script kiddies breaching the service, I think it's just simply fraudsters who buy logins en mass from other compromised sites and try them on many other systems. I've not seen anything to indicate there's been a successful hack or system wide compromise.

Like other systems I just use prepay cards on SEN and only keep a small amount of credit at any time.

Another bit of advice I would give you is to change you SEN email to one you have set up ONLY for SEN. Don't use that email anywhere else. Obviously same goes for the password too. Until Sony improve their security, offering users basic protection in therms of 2 level authentication...it is the best you are going to get.

Not keeping funds in your SEN Wallet or payment details on file is a good start that should protect you against future financial fraud, but it won't stop your account getting compromised and possibly banned, losing all access to your previous purchases, trophies, friend's list etc.
