Potential Claim?

Hi, I was just looking for some advice/guidance here please.

In October last year, I started working for a pretzel franchise in a kiosk in a shopping centre. I didn't really receive any formal training and was offered the job mainly due to having a Level 3 Food Safety certificate.

I also didn't receive any uniform until early December, so was wearing my own clothes. I received quite a severe burn on my chest from the oven door, which became infected and I was told to take antibiotics from a chemist. At work I told my supervisor, but was just given Savlon. It has now healed but has left a horrible scar which has really knocked me and made me feel really insecure now.

I had thought about possibly reporting it before, but the franchise owner was a really lovely manager and everything was just a mad dash to get the kiosk open and running.

Soon after though, management changed and I was dismissed in January 2015 for my 'demeanour towards staff and customers and my reliability at work', and was given the guarantee that I'd be given a good reference, but have since been unable to find a job.

I have never been dismissed from a job like that before and now, looking back on it, I realise that it had really knocked my confidence and made me feel really self-conscious. I feel that it was unfair because I hadn't been fully trained with all the opening and close down procedures, just a laminated paper on the fridge door with instructions, and was just picking up tips from other workers, and was told I should have asked for training..

Due to this incident occurring 7 months ago, could I potentially claim, or does it look opportunistic?

So you want to make an injury claim, not a claim for unfair dismissal??

Did you get some antibiotics, did you see your GP or go to A&E?

Was the equipment in any way defective, how did your chest come into contact with the oven?

I can't see how this relates to your inability to find a new job ...

Yes, as the claim for unfair dismissal had an appeal window for 5 days after the Employment Review meeting, and I didn't lodge one within that timeframe

I went to the chemist and was told it was infected and was given dressings, but as the job was located in my university city, I haven't registered for a doctor here.
The oven door opens downwards and sometimes when you close it and it doesn't close entirely so falls open, that's how it fell onto my chest, the corner of the door.

You can't blame anybody else for your failure to get treatment. You could have attended a walk in centre or registered as a temporary patient at a GP surgery, or if as severe as you claim gone to A&E.

I'm not placing blame on anybody. I was merely relaying the events and was proposing whether it was even worth making a claim, to which you don't think so, so thank you for your input :-)

Think to consider is that if you were to make a claim what proof you have that showing what exactly happened. So you don't have any record, I'm not sure if the shop had an accident book either. Even though you had a claim, you will struggle to prove it.
