Nationwide Building Society

I am starting my first job and have to give bank details.

Since I want my money to be paid into Nationwide Building Society is there anything special I have to provide them with? They only asked for account number and sort code but since it is a building society do I need to give them any further information?

No .. works the same as a bank.
Might be worth finding out how long the payment takes to clear.

Nationwide are for most purposes a bank and use sortcode and account number to identify individual accounts. Some smaller Building Societies have a single account and use roll number to identify your account.

Your employer will probably pay using either Faster Payments or BACS Direct Credit, both of which should ensure that the pay is in your account on or before the date that you are advised it will be there. Nationwide do their own clearing the same as the High Street banks.
  • I have occasionally been asked for address of the bank/building society where account is based - as some just assume it's the local branch even then it's not thrown a problem whether you go with local or central - it's isn't like it used to be I dare say

Sorry if I've read this wrong!

    Congratulations on the job! :)

What you'll find is that NW will have a single sort code (for all the debit cards ever issued I've never seen a different one) but the account numbers will naturally vary, that's what you give for DDs, then Nationwide will translate those details for their own systems.

So if you have a debit/Flexaccount card just read the details off that when giving your employer the payroll info. In the past decade nobody's ever asked me where the branch was when they wanted the name Nationwide Building Society for a DD.
