I would just like to post a message to thanks to all the helpful posters on this forum
4 years ago I had my "Light bulb moment" with almost 40k worth of debt, as of today I have 6 months left until my debt free debt. and it has just dipped to under 2000
In particular Sourcrates, Rizla King and Happybunny86 as well as quite a few others, your advice has been invaluable and without it I would more than likely have quite a few more years left.
I had a few turns of "good" luck, including a flight delay claim (help on that elsewhere on the forums) which helped get rid of some of it but even with that I would still be stuck in a debt rut, I can see the end now and it feels great so thanks guys

Well done
But have you a clear objective linked to your financial position once your debt has been repaid ?
What do you want to achieve in your life and what are the financial parameters that will allow you to achieve this ?Debt is a symptom, solve the problem.0 -

Interesting philosophical question!
I enjoyed spending every penny of the debt (well apart from the interest) and I would almost say I don't regret it, We have been to places that would not have been possible otherwise, I say almost because of course it was a foolish thing to do and paying it back has been hard going, and would certainly not do it again if I had my time over.
I now have two beautiful kids and I will hopefully remain in a position to make sure they want for nothing and have the best lives I can give them. We both have good wages coming in so the long term goal is ironically to get into more debt with a bigger mortgage on a bigger house but crucially we will do all within our means.
what do I want to achieve in life? I want to be happy, I want my wife to be happy and I want my kids to be happy, People say money doesn't bring happiness, but not worrying about it certainly does and will enable us to take the kids on good holidays and have experiences that I didn't have growing up0 -
