I've been Money Tipped!
Anyone know the cheapest place to get laundry and cleaning products that are not tested on animals - preferably BUAV approved?

I usually buy from Marks and Spencers (laundry bits and washing up liquid, and occasional reduced stuff, not for grocery shop, obvs). I buy Astonish products when I can find them, but its a bit hit and miss.

I live in a average sized town with Asda, Lidl, and a good range of shops. I travel for work and to see friends and family, so pass other main supermarkets - Sainsburys, Tesco's etc at least once a month.

I use diluted white vinegar or bleach solution.

I need Washing up liquid, fabric softener, and laundry powder/tablets/liquid.

Help please :)

I also use Astonish products and find my local Home Bargains stores has a great stock of them. Do you have a Home Bargains near you?

Yup, astonish is the one, all vegan and BUAV approved, and pretty widely available, http://www.astonishcleaners.com/cruelty-free.html. If you're not fussed about the vegan thing, but still want BUAV, though they test on water fleas ecover are pretty widely available, and also apparently (according to the Vegan supermarket finds facebook page) Easy, which are available in poundworld are vegan, so i'd imagine they are animal testing free etc...

Home Bargains locally does a good range of Astonish cleaning stuff - but not consistently the washing up liquid and laundry stuff unfortunately.

Vegan is a bonus - but not essential.

Is the Easy range properly not tested? I know some brands are a bit deceptive about this - the product isn't tested, but ingredients are, or company doesn't test but they outsource the testing. It actually is widely available locally.

Ecover is too - bit expensive, but it is a good buy.

  • I buy all vegan household stuff from ethical superstore online. It can be expensive but if you wait they often have 20% off everything offers. I've managed to get it so I bulk buy all household cleaning and washing etc twice a year in bulk on 20% offer days. Works out extremely cheap and good quality. Other than that our poundshop sells astonish cleaning products but nothing suitable for washing (soap powder/conditioner).

ASDA has their own eco-friendly range including washing powder, washing-up liquid, toilet cleaner etc. I buy Ecover stuff too, also Method. I always asume. that since animal testing is unpopular with most people, that the majority of products wouldn't be tested on animals these days.

If there are big brand culprits however please please put up a link because I want to avoid them x

Do get a copy of the Compassionate Shopping guide - it's really useful about who to avoid as well as buy from and it's free at the moment :)
