I rent [assured shorthold tenancy]
is it worth asking my OR not to contact my landlord[in case my landlord freaks, etc]
or is it a case of the OR will do what they want to do?

My OR said she would be contacting my landlord, but in fact didn't (or hasn't so far!) I raised the subject with him myself to get it in the open and find out where we stood. As long as he gets his money he's happy!0

From what i've read on here in the past, as long as you don't owe the LL any money then they're usually fine.
I'm going BR next week and don't owe my LL anything, so i'm hoping that the OR won't tell him.
I did think about coming clean with him, as it does state in my agreement that i must not live here as a BR, but i've decided to take the risk and hope he doesn't find out. My parents have agreed to go guarentor for me if theres a problem.
I doubt somehow your LL will make a fuss, if he's collecting cash for the rent and you have nothing in writing it sounds like hes doing something dodgy (though i could be wrong)The first time we said hello, was the first time we said goodbye. As the angels took your tiny hand and flew you to the sky-you forever left us breathless. RIP my beautiful granddaughter

Severe, is there any way that you can start paying your landlord by direct debit? I'm always a bit suspicious of landlords who accept cash but don't give receipts - he might not be declaring the income to the Inland Revenue, or he might be claiming some sort of benefits. Cash payments without receipts in those circumstances make it harder for you to establish your rights if anything goes wrong with the tenancy. The OR can contact your landlord at any time, & I think it would be wise for you to have your payments recorded with the provision of a receipt should in case anything untoward happen in the future. If your tenancy agreement says you should be getting a receipt, I would gently remind your landlord of that.BSC #53 - "Never mistake activity for achievement."
