SE after maternity

My maternity leave is almost up, I want to go back to work in my self employed business, but it will take a while to build up customers again as I have been on maternity for the full term.

Do I need to declare earnings and everything with inland revenue, because I am registered as self employed with them, but last few years not making profit, I seem to remember having a letter saying I didn't need to declare because I'm working so few hrs and not making profit.

How can I tell if I need to fill out all those online forms please? I will have to request a new UTR and all that because I forgot it.

What would happen if I didn't do it thi year and I get told I should have done it, then I say well I was on maternity because I'm nursing. New baby so even though officially self employed I wasn't working all year

If you are registered as self employed then you must fill in a self assessment tax return every year regardless of whether any profit is made.

contact your tax ffcice explaining the position and ask if you need to submit a return.

That letter used to give a number of years that you were not requird to submit returns unless your cicumsatnces changed. In which case you should contact them.
