Mortgage declined

Hello,
I would be very grateful if anybody has advice regarding our situation. We had a mortgage in principal agreed by underwriters at Nationwide. A valuation was carried out on the property and then we were told that the mortgage has now been declined due to credit check. My partner missed a credit card payment 5 years ago (which was then paid in full) and this will be written off next March. Our financial advisor was confident that they would accept our situation which seemed at first to be accepted by Nationwide. Is there any hope that another lender will agree a mortgage?
Many thanks
J

I single missed payment 5 years ago doesnt sound like enough to decine on credit score to me.
Have you checked your credit file to make sure theres nothing else?
Has Nationwide specifically told you that missed payment is the problem?I am a Mortgage Adviser

Are you sure your DIP went to the underwriters? Some people get their DIP in a few hours, so the underwriting will be done at full application stage, others can take several days at DIP as its been viewed by the underwriters at this stage.
