Edinburgh Zoo parking

I am driving through from Glasgow to Edinburgh on Saturday, combining a day out at the zoo with collecting my daughter from the airport at 10.30 pm.
I plan to spend the day at the zoo, then go for a meal out in the centre ( and climb Arthur's Seat, if I still have energy after the zoo!)
I thought that the best way to do this would be to park at the zoo which seems to cost £4, and then take a tram into the centre of town (£4 for a day ticket), and then come back out to collect the car in the evening to drive out to the airport.
The zoo closes at 6pm though - can anyone tell me whether the carpark closes then too, or whether it stays open? If the former, does anyone have any alternative ideas for parking?

You cant get a tram from the zoo into town, although there are plenty of buses.

Best bet would be to park at the park and ride at the airport & get a bus day ticket,

or park on one of the side streets near the zoo (again, get a bus dayticket)

#Hi, I live 5 mins from the Zoo and can assure you that you will find free parking nearby. Lots of side streets you can park in, maybe get one quite near the Balgreen tram stop then walk 10 mins back to the zoo.
