Also...what would the OR think about:

    £20 clothing per month
    £15 mobile phone top up
£10 per month saved towards dental appointments

They are the only other things I will need to account for.
  • I honestly think you're getting yourself worried unnecessarily. As you don't earn any money at the moment you will not have to pay into an IPA. I would inform the OR of your intention to get a part-time job while you study as your parents would like you to pay your way. If/when this happens you will then be able to tell the OR (you have 21 days to inform them of any change of financial circumstances) and they may ask you to go through a statement of affairs. From everything you've said though I can't see any that you are being unreasonable and neither should they, particularly if you've given them advance notice of your intentions.

    All the best!

Thanks - you're right. Just planning ahead and want to give myself the best chance of recovering from BR over the next few years.

    Thanks for the replies.

    sounds fair enough, what about
    - travel
    - holiday(you can't claim much, but you are allowed a modest holiday, may £10-20 per month)
    - contingency (i think you get £10 for this)

So at the moment all this is pie in the sky. If you go BR now all your income is benefits? So you just have to fill in the forms as your situation is now. Maybe show a small amount going to your parents as keep. When you get a job then you submit a new SoA with your new expenditure on it including the rent to your parents, what ever it will, the amount will obviously depend on what you are earning. When you have your interview you can say that you are looking for work and obviously when you find work your parents will want to be given a proper amount for keep.

The OR shouldn't object to $350 if it is the going rate for living in a shared house in your area. If he does then you can appeal it and also say that your parents will want you to move out if you can't pay it.

Pop a SoA up of your situation as it is currently, though if you are on benefits then the OR can't impose an IPA so it doesn't matter that much. If you want to also put one up of your projected income and expenditure and we can go through for you so you are prepared for when you do get a job.

And when you do get your job, post your SOA here before sending it to the OR so we can run through it. You don't need to leave yourself too tight.
