Stopping paying national insurance

I have just been informed that you can stop paying NI contributions after you have worked for 35 years without it affecting your pension. Apparently you have to claim this through an exemption form from the tax office but they don't promote this. Is this the case or not?

No it is not correct. The only time you stop paying NI on earned income is once you reach state pension age. NI is not normally reclaimable.0

You've been misinformed. NI is payable if you earn the needed amount until you reach state pension age no matter how many years contributions you have. It is also useful for contribution based benefits such as JSA and ESA which go on recent contributions.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

and do double check everything else they say?0

I don't, believe you pay NI on pensions income even if you retire before state pension age.0

Indeed, I wrote to George on that subject, to suggest that merging income tax and NI was a very bad idea for anyone getting a pension. Unfortunately "The Taxpayers Alliance" still go on about doing it.0
