Warning: Morrisons vine cherry tomatoes
Warning! This afternoon my local Morrisons had two boxes of vine (on the vine) tomatoes displayed above two boxes of loose cherry tomatoes. Pricing was unclear, (one sign saying cherry vine tomatoes,) but it turns out the cherry tomatoes are the same price as those on the vine - approximately TWICE the price of the pre-packaged cherry tomatoes for the same weight! The staff said the loose cherry tomatoes on display were the same as vine tomatoes, but arrived already removed from the stem, so were the same price. Till roll showed them as Morrisons vine tomatoes.
Be careful out there.

So a bargain for the the loose cherry tomatoes compared with their on vine compatriots - you don't pay for the weight of the stems.0 -
I see your point. I took them to customer services and got a refund, so don't know if they tasted great. I doubt it. They looked just like the pre-packaged cherry tomatoes, not like the ones on the vine.
Several other shoppers there thought they were ordinary cherry tomatoes, too, and thought them overpriced, so worth a heads up, I think.0 -
On the plus side, Morrisons have started selling loose tomatoes at 15p each. Which should make those who look to see which ones are best value happier.0

As far as I remember, when vine tomatoes were first introduced, they explained the higher price by saying that keeping them on the vine was unwieldy, but kept that 'just picked' taste. If the suppliers pick them off the vine before they even reach the shop, then I think they should not be charging the same.0

So one store had a case of tomatoes displayed incorrectly meaning we need to be warned. It was probably an isolated case. Pardon the pun.
To be honest, Morrisons don't sell loose cherry tomatoes on their own. It sounds like they have put the box out in the produce section which was meant for the salad bar. The price at the till was probably some price for another tomato.0
