Which Kettle ?

We need a new kettle - the old (plastic) Russell Hobs one is leaking around the base
We generally have to replace kettles every 4 or 5 years for this very reason - leaks !!
I think that a limescale filter is necessary and the old one had a "flat" element - built in to the base....
What brand is going to last the longest ?

I live in a very hard water area, and I've worked through every make of kettle over the years, some very expensive. None of them have ever lasted over 2 years.
I've now got to the point where I buy an asda cheapie - £7 or so every couple of years and chuck the old one out. Good brands fare no better. :j:D:beer::eek::A:p:rotfl::cool::):(:T0 -
I would have thought that 4-5 years for a kettle was pretty good really.
If it was me I'd be buying the same brand that you already have.0 -
I used to buy expensive kettles but they don't seem to last long. Current one is a sainsburys basic that cost £5. It works a treat.0

Ours only seem to last a couple of years before leaking at the bottom of the visible water measure ... Problem is, we're fussy on style, I don't like the on/off switch being at the bottom of the handle!:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

Many things are better than ever, but kettles seem to be universally bad quality now. Better off getting a good vintage one. Mine is about 37 years old, and it's used at least ten times a day. Or just buy really cheap new ones and accept they're basically disposable items with a reasonably short life. What I won't do any more is buy expensive new ones as they don't seem to last any longer than the £10 ones.0

I live in hard water area, and use those little mesh things, like mini brillo pads
At least the chalk is all in one place, a quick squish and rinse makes ir back to new
Agree, just get a cheap oneGardener’s pest is chef’s escargot0 -

I too, used to have an old chrome one - that must have been at least 20 years old before the element burnt itself out 10 + years ago - I guess that whilst technology has moved on in many aspects - some (kettles) have gone backwards !!0
