O/S Daily thread for Sunday 24th May

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

Morning all
DGD slept in until 6:45 so not too bad.
We have made hubby a cuppa, DGD & I will have breakfast & then make butterfly cakes.
I have posted a pic of her on my blog & on facebook, she has my witches hat on, my crochet blanket tied round her shoulders and she is sitting astride my beson with a stuffed toy lion instead of a black cat.
I'm off to read her another chapter of a book.
Have good day everyone.

Morning one and all. A bit of a grey start here so fingers crossed we don't get rain. We're hoping it keeps dry as we have to make an unforeseen trip over to the caravan, after a frantic SOS from DD last night! I honestly don't know what she does but she always has gone at stuff like a bull at a gate! When we stay there we never get all these problems that beset her and which we have to go over and sort out!
Lunch was going to be the ys chicken I left thawing overnight, but that might go in the sc now to have when we get back later! Will have the veg prepped and ready to go on too. And we thought we had a leisurely day planned for a change!
Have a nice day all, ((((((((HUGS))))))))) if you need one and take care whatever you are doing xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning everyone.
Skies are clearing to show lots of blue, an hour ago they were all grey. It may well turn out fine.
My sore throat has got worse, I'm now coughing and feel a cold coming on. I haven't had one for months and months. OH plumped fir fish and chips last night but I had no appetite.
Today will be pottering in the garden time, perhaps lunch out and sorting out the bedroom TV. I might put a wash on if the weather stays good.
Now I may well have another snooze!
Hope everyone is doing well.0 -
Morning All
Fairly bright here, could go either way. The living room curtains are in the machine and I will start to strip wallpaper later, getting started is the hard bit!
Had a lovely day yesterday, the Home Show and then a wander. Dinner at friends house was lovely and paced myself drink wise so feel fine today. Bought some ceramic pans at the show, lovely bright colours so will see if they really work, looks good if you can cook with no oil, etc.
csarina - So glad you have found a new place, all hands on deck now to get you moved in, the garden sounds fab too.
LW - it will soon be over!
TA, I hope your DD hasn't caused too much of a problem, my DD is the same, something always happens!
Have a good Sunday, take care. XX0 -

I usually do the morning walks with Scampi, mr tru takes him out in the evening. My walks are calm ambles, his are runs on a long lead. I'd quite like to run about with S, but my leg won't allow it at the moment so that's thatMy walks have been a bit of nightmare lately so I've asked for advice from other doggy people (only if they've stopped to chat – I don't ambush every person with a dog, lol!) but nothing seems to make a difference so I came to the conclusion that my attitude/tone/whatever must be wrong. Til last night, when we both went for a walk with mr tru holding the lead. He told me a while ago what worked for him, so steady when S pulled to make him calm down a bit, heel to make him walk next to you. Great, except I'd been using with me (from the day we had him, and I told mr tru this at the time). So I'd switched to his words, and they didn't work. Last night I watched him use heel to stop pulling. I said I thought you used the word steady? He said that's only to remind him that he's getting close to the end of the long lead and needs to calm down. He doesn't do anything to make S walk right next to him. I've also used the word gently from day one, to tell S not to jump at the chickens, other dogs and people. Worked well for me, mr tru decides to start using the word nicely then wonders why it doesn't work. I kept telling him, S knows gently so doesn't understand nicely. Mr tru takes offence and starts muttering about 'everything has to be your way'. If he wants a battle of wills then he can have one, but I won't let him use the dog for it. How dare he  No wonder Scampi won't listen half the time, he has no idea what he's supposed to do. I'm going to have to take over everything dog-related for now, no doubt I'll be accused of being controlling or something but hey-ho.
I have a lot more of that ^^^ but it's probably best I stop thereI'm feeling ever-so-slighty sabotaged atm.
I have a projectA friend is organising a charity yarn bomb, not sure of exact details yet but I think it's going to be at Kingsholm rugby ground. All I know is it's garden related. I can do ladybirds and lots of different flowers in all sizes. I'll learn how do birds (not that awful bower bird – I know lots of people like it but I hate it, lol) and I'd quite like to learn how to make a decent bee

Today will be back-to-basics with The Scamps and searching for crochet patterns. I wrote my own pattern for flower garlands so may have time to get one made today. Feeling quite excited about this, it's nice to have a goal

Morning All
Tru I have been taking Skye to a doggie class, as much to get her interating with larger dogs, I would love to have a similar sized one which she could run and play with, but doesn't seem to be one, she likes, who wants to play, or they are too large & boisterous and she doesn't want to know. Heel I think is a slight pipe dream, when she first goes out she is so full of beans and excited, she needs five minutes before she is interested in doing anything much! but they do say to hold the lead in the right hand, across the front of you, then held again with your left hand, and the dog always on the left, and she does stay with me with less pulling like this. I make her sit before I will put her harness on, and then sit again to attach the lead. DH doesn't, and she dances around him, but knows there is no movement from me until she does as requested. is the basic requirements. I might add that she has DH wrapped around her little paw!
Gers hope the cold doesn't develop
Csarina will read back, but hope you have what you need.
Caravan is empty, garage & spare room cluttered! Sod's law, DH & DDIL are here for a night next weekend to attend a wedding, so everything will be moved into office/craft/dump room next Friday.
I have had the sewing machine out in the conservatory, first of all to repair a few things, and then alter a pair of trousers, to lift the crotch & shape in the back. Did hope to get to actually making something I have material for, but once change of caravan was decided a good mattress protector and bottom sheet, which had ben altered, but not cutfor the shaped bottom corner of the caravan bed, these two then needed returning to normal for the spare bed. Need to blitz the conservatory, so as we have far to much looming to get the sewing done, so have put it away once all the repair/alteration jobs done. Today we hope to have the blitz. Almost up to date with the washing now, even got all the dog bedding done yesterday. Will also have another go at the office/craft/dump room, at the moment, less of the former and more of the latter
We go away in the new 'van a week on Friday, and in between need to fit in, taking the old one to the dealers (1.5 hrs away) for them to change over things from old the new(to us) Annual review at the Drs, Dentist, Collect new 'van, load it with all the normal things, plus clothes & food for 10 days away, oh! and a weekend with our dear visitors. Only home 9 nights then out for 4 weeks!! However, did I fit work in?? The summer of decorating, seems to have slipped by.
(((hugs)), spoons & positive vibes all round. Take care everyone. DGMember #8 of the SKI-ers Club
Why is it I have less time now I am retired then when I worked?0 -
Morning all,
Larder cupboards did not happen yesterday, builders merchants messed the order up and 'forgot' to put it on the lorry, and no one told me ! I spend a lot of the morning on the phone to them trying to sort it out, I ended up with a huge discount which I have to finalise with the manager Tuesday but its nearly 50% of the bill, I told them I had two builders here waiting(well its not too much of a lie there was OH and I :rotfl:)
Day was not wasted though got another corner of the kitchen boarded up and I need to paint it today, we also got rid of a load of stuff to the tip, and went and had a look at a cupboard of my sisters which she has said I can have, I will get OH to shelve it and keep it in the spare room for my bed linen.
Today I think we are moving the mother into her new house, most of the stuff is there just need her bed and WM moved over, the rest of it is in boxes in the new place but she can do it slowly over time once she is in there.
Need to nip to the shop to get salad stuff for the next few days, flambe tonight with salad and new pots.
Right better get on and hang this washing out.
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning ((((((((((((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))))))))) if you need one, I do, lousy nights sleep, was playing scrabble on the IPad at 4am,
We are forecast rain later, so OH is going out shortly to start getting the bulbs up out of the garden. I also need to decide what plants we are taking with us.
We gave a load of pots away a few weeks ago, fortunately the lady will let us have some of them back so we can move the plants and then get them back to her. I just need to get in touch.
DD & DGD coming at lunch time with food for lunch, so not cooking today....yey!!0 -
It's a 'man' thing Judi!
Mine is outside cutting the grass with the old petrol mower despite us spending £100.00 on a new electric one. He insists it's better, what is is noiser, smellier and less efficient. At least he's cutting down the jungle and it means that I can manage it when he's away.
Breakfast cooked and eaten, I'm going back to bed I think to nurse this cold. My eyes are heavy and sore. It's such a shame over the BH weekend too but can't be helped. It's a cold and will be gone soon.
TV gadget is fixed up already, it didn't need the TV taken off the wall which is a blessing. I'll go up and do the set up stuff whilst in bed. :rotfl:
OH will go for a bike ride before the weather starts to turn bad again. That'll keep him out of mischief.0
