Housing executive waiting list

I've recently had to go to the housing executive and they did an interview. When I explained my circumstances, they said I'll probably be awarded about 120 points. My areas of choice are low demand. I'd appreciate any advice about how long I will likely have to wait. Has anyone had a similar level of points and been housed quickly? Or, is it still unlikely that I'll ever get an offer?

120 points is good ,I think you must be going the homeless route .
If they have empty property in your chosen area you will be near top of the list .
The only thing you don't know is how many others have similar points .

Yeah 120 points is quite good for the list. Especially if you have chosen low demand areas. All housing associations use the HEX list when assigning houses so fingers crossed it won't be long until something comes up.
Probably no harm calling around to a few associations to see if they have any stock coming up. They don't hold their own housing lists afaik but it's still good to show your face and show them that you're really keen and would make a good tenant.

Thank you for your replies. I haven't got the decision letter from the housing executive yet but they did say they expect me to be given that amount of points. I'm not homeless though. I do have a roof over my head at the minute. They said the points were for the house being unfit and for landlord harassment. I have long term health problems and it is affecting me badly.

I'm not very familiar with the whole process but it's nice to hear that 120 points is quite high. Maybe something will come up.

Loads on info on Housing Rights' housingadviceNI website on the waiting list http://www.housingadviceni.org/waiting-list-housing It's not just about your points, but also how often vacant properties come up in your areas of choice.

You can be homeless with a roof over your head as long as that "home" is so unsuitable for your needs that it's unreasonable to expect you to continue living there; http://www.housingadviceni.org/homelessness-test

If you've been given your homeless points (and with 120 it's likely that you have) NIHE has a duty to provide you with temporary housing while you wait for a permanent offer if you want that: http://www.housingadviceni.org/temporary-accommodation-0

That's really nice to hear. Its so easy to feel hopeless when you hear of people waiting for many years and never getting an offer. It's nice to know that there's at least a chance as I can't cope here at all.

Thank you for the links Tansy. That website is really helpful.

I think the points they told me I should get are because they said it is unreasonable for me to continue living here. I didn't even tell them about a lot of the problems because I'm so fearful of my landlord finding out I've told anyone. They seemed to think that the issues I did tell them about would be enough to get points that would give me an offer in my area.
