Holiday after given notice

Hi

I've just been told by my employers that I am not allowed to take any remaining holiday I have before I leave my job but I will get the money instead. I can understand them saying this as there will be new people to train but was wondering if this was allowed? I'd rather have the time off!

Thanks,
Emily

    Yes it is allowed.

edit: I am presuming you had not already prebooked the holiday

All holidays have to be approved. They're perfectly entitled to pay you for the time when you leave instead.

    Ok thanks.

No it has not been prebooked - was just hoping to reduce the number of days having to go into work!

You need to refer to your contract and conditions of employment.

Typically, they will say all holiday requests must be pre-approved by management.
Some may specifically allow bank holidays. Only bank employees s etc are actually entitled to bank holidays, but many employers do close these days and specify bank holidays are to be taken as holiday (unless agreed otherwise)
Some employers may specify when all holidays must be taken (e.g. school teachers, factory workers with agreed shutdown periods, etc)

I would expect you can take Monday off (unless your contract does not allow bank holidays), but any other holidays must be pre-approved ... which it sounds like they are not going to do.

You will be paid for any accrued holiday entitlement not taken by termination date (or maybe deducted for holidays taken and paid for but not yet accrued)
