40 months to freedom.....

I buy a lot of stuff in bulk from Costco and whilst it costs a fair bit of outlay the quality of the stuff and the price per item is great. Over the year we worked out we save a few hundred quid. However , that's all lost when I buy rubbish that we don't need the rest of the month.
Good luck with your debt free journey. I just realised it would only be 36-40 posts on here if I did this once a month and I would be home and dry.:eek:Credit cards and loan total at Jan 2016=£37599 :eek::mad::mad::(:(0 -
I meal plan write a list and stick to it. That's key for me. We don't tend to waste much that way.
The £1000 challenge is great. It's achievable but feels like a decent safety net.
Good luckMortgage Jan 13 99260.00 87253 April 2017

Hi
I found your diary!
I always spent about £100 - £140 a week on shopping for the three of us plus two dogs. However, I try and do all a lot of the A*sda glitch shopping so my garage is quite full of a lot of stuff, so I really did not need to spend as much it was just a habit.
I now take £35 out of the bank a week and use that instead of cards so I know what I am spending. Up to now this has worked because we don't really need any toiletries, cleaning items, juice, tinned items and the freezer is really really full.
Keep in touch because as you said on my diary we are in a similar situation with similar amounts so hopefully we can keep each other focused.
Take care and start to meal planning using what you have because that has made such a difference to me up to now.

Hi April shower.
Nice to hear from you. It's nice to have someone to talk to who is in a similar position! As regards the shopping we all work long hours in our house and I generally order an online shop which, though you pay for the delivery could work to my advantage because you can see how much you are spending as you go along and don't get as tempted as in store. My plan is to do the Costco shop every two months and get all the bulk buys then spend between £30 and £50 a week on groceries.
It's about actually watching what you spend and staying within the boundaries. I have a little book I'm going to use to write down whatever I spend on a daily basis.
Just waiting to get paid this month on 26.5 then I am going to write down what I pay off on here and hopefully watch the amounts come down.
It feels so much better to know there is somewhere I can come and offload to others in the same boat and also support others xCredit cards and loan total at Jan 2016=£37599 :eek::mad::mad::(:(0 -
Set a new budget for shopping and will see how I manage this month. Paid £100 extra off the loan which is less than I hoped for but hope to pay£200 next month. Saved £30 towards the £1000 emergency fund. Back later with actual precise amounts I owe....when I dare to look.Credit cards and loan total at Jan 2016=£37599 :eek::mad::mad::(:(0

Hi Cat Girl
I hope you are ok. Keep going and every £100 makes that figure go down.
I am going to try and build an emergency fund, because I do think it is such a good idea and stops you turning back to using a CC if something unexpected comes up.
Take care

Hello April shower.
If I never saw another credit card again it would make me happy!!
Yes, the save for an emergency thing is great. Like for instance if an appliance conks out... Reach for the credit card... If you have some cash set aside in the bank you don't need to. Hope your efforts at debt busting are going ok...

Hi
How are you? I have not been on for a while, I decided to kick start my plan and get more organised. So I sorted out meal plans, the house is far more organised and tidy, washing and ironing all sorted, listed a lot of stuff on eBay and done a car boot sale.
So this has made me more organised and I feel more in control to do other things now. I am going to do another car boot sale as I made £155 and also this weekend I am going to list more unwanted stuff on eBay.
I hope all is well with yourself and that figure is coming down.
Take care
