Ha Ha Svalbaard! I have to say, what a lovely bunch of people you are! Half Marathon? That seems a long way off for me, but then, I thought a mile was impossible at the beginning of the year! And unfortunately, I cant swim, so Triathlon might set a whole new set of challenges! LOL!

Running has definitely gives me the time to sort things out in my head. I am a worrier, and tend to make really small things into massive problems - running has definitely helped with that. I still actually HATE the running part, but absolutely LOVE the end feeling of accomplishment, and now realise that running probably wont kill me! : )

I'm also a worrier, and I find that running (and swimming) help me in that I switch off from worrying. In a way,it relaxes me,if that makes sense.

Because I haven't been back running for long,I'm still getting used to that feeling that you get when you start running:the first 5-10 minutes I feel rubbish and then suddenly something kicks in and I feel great.Or at least I don't feel rubbish any more.
I'd forgotten that and can't remember if it's goes once you've running for a while,or does every runner get that?

I would have replied sooner but didn't get notified of the updates.

I haven't run since last Sunday.I really want to get out there tonight. It's cool here, thankfully.

I was running last night, sort of jogging along, feeling that I was doing ok.I suddenly decided to pick up the pace a bit,and was surprised that I could sustain it.
It's easy to get stuck in one gear.
I'm still mostly concentrating on building up my stamina, but I'm looking forward to varying my speed too.
    I've also started doing hills,which I love,especially uphill.

Well done NotBothered!!! You certainly have my admiration.

My experience is that, in most 5k, 10k, half marathon and marathon, most finishers will actively encourage the later finishers instead of looking down on them. It's great to see finishers staying behind to encourage later finishers.

There is a running community of which you are now a fully paid up member!!!

Won't be long until you are shouting somebody on who is finishing behind you.

    Well done!!!

Thanks BusPass! I did my first 5 miler on Monday! Ran home from work and then put another mile loop in. Man that hurt, but was determined to do it. Cant say my legs like me all that much at the moment. Spasms like you wouldnt believe. Is this normal for runners or is this an MS spasm? Sometimes hard to differentiate between the two, and dont want to push myself too hard if I am hurting myself, but dont want to give in to it if its a normal thing either. : -)

I think that speed does matter, not in the way that people are expecting.
Most of your training should be done at a slow pace imo.

Unfortunately I am in no way medically qualified so cannot comment on the reactions you are experiencing.

Joining a local running club (they are not only for elite athletes) will give you access to great advice and you will be directed towards physios, masseurs etc who should identify any issues and give you appropriate advice. Your GP will give you good general advice and may have knowledge of your particular medical history.

Listen to your body and don't overdo it.
