Does coconut oil affect carb absorption?

Think so. It's because of the fat.

To be technical and boring if you eat fat your body uses stored energy to digest it rather than incoming energy.

Thanks all. I didn't even think of the humble sandwich. A couple of ham rolls will give me 50g of carbs and 260 calories.

Add a bag of jellybeans and one of the energy recipes and I'm well away I reckon!

I'm going to do my next 100km on Sunday so will report back as to how I go. Keep the ideas coming too please.

My son does triathlons, I gave him the nigella recipe for breakfast bars. He made some for his training club and added extra protein powder in. They went down really well. He also uses recipes from the triathletes magazine.http://triathlon.competitor.com/category/nutrition/recipes there's some portable snack type things.

    salami sticks
    peanut butter on crispbread stuff
    bananas
mixed nuts and raisins no salt (unless really hot day)
Dates/prunes/dried apricots (on line in bulk cheaper than those little packets in supermarkets)
Debt is a symptom, solve the problem.

Wow! Seriously impressed by your drive OP!

How about making up some mini pizza's? Not the normal ones, but the ones that are folded over on themselves like a pasty...

You could fill with whatever combo of protein, cheese and veggies that you like/need, let them cool and munch away. No mess or crumbs because the pizza base/case is stretchy not crumbly and the cheese keeps the insides packed together. Probably better to make several mini ones rather than one large one for easy eating on the bike.

Looks like you've got the food covered now, but don't forget you can also get some extra sugars (and salts, if you need them) from sports drinks too. I find even just a bit of squash can give a big boost when you're at the stage where you can't really stomach solid food.
    Saving for deposit: Finished! :j
    House buying: Finished!
Next task: Lots and lots of DIY

That's because you're quite posh - and sandwiches aren't part of your daily cuisine.

I thought of you while I was in Mr T earlier today ... perusing the expensive foods in the frozen section. And then I saw something and thought "Ideal for Gen!"

So I'd like to propose: Fish finger sandwiches. Some boxes point out extra Omega 3 (the posh ones!).... fish finger sandwiches are as yummy cold as hot. Just make them up the night before, toss into the fridge and you're good to go the next morning :)

I like them best with a splash of salad cream, but ketchup's good ... or au naturelle.

Of course, I know you'll ruin it, with your own, organic, hand-baked bread, made with extra virgin olive oil and a raft of other posh ingredients .... not to mention making your own fish fingers, using fresh salmon caught by vintage fishermen in the streams of the mountains then hand stroked until gently culled and caressed by virgins until they reach the shop shelves :)

Foxs glacier mints (or glacier fruits if you don't like mint) just in case you need a quick sugar boost along the way. They're individually wrapped and stand up to heat pretty well.

How about Scottish tablet? I'm not a fan of this from a health point of view, but it does stand up well to heat and is definitely calorific. This is a link to quite a good recipe that someone who has tried it passed onto me (I sampled the result :-).

Unfortunately I already blew the posh budget on Organic unicorn food for my daughters Chlamydia and Candida. Oh they do miss their unicorn so much now they are away at St Posh's School for Posh People.

I'm having a go at the Nigella bars. They're pretty cheap and simple to make and tick all the boxes. I'll take a couple of bread rolls along with me too.

SiL's husband came over today. He'd like you all to know that I'm cycling in the wrong place, too slowly and am stupid for wanting to make something that might be more nutritious than gel and a sports drink.

I wonder how well he came back to cycling after he had cancer? Oh yeah, he didn't because he's never had cancer.

    Ooooh I hate being patronised.

Well I made them. They're quite tasty actually.

We'll see how I go tomorrow.

Thanks MrsLurcherwalker for the recipe but I fear it may be a little too fruit heavy for me.
