    @ Andy from Otley,

thanks for your comments, I've followed the advice and comments youve given on a number of threads, so I'll thank you for your inspiration, it was some of your comments that got me onto YNAB ... with the student version as Im doing a college course.

    Regarding your comments above :

-Council tax is on 10 months . Is there a real benefit of 12 month payments? The value remains the same.
-I'll look at reallocating the mortgage overpayment until the emergency fund and Tesco CC is cleared.
-Life insurance is a legacy policy, I'll look to compare it
    - I cant carshare, but will look to cycle to work more (10 miles each way)
    - The £10 maintenance ... the car I bought for £800 4 years ago has only had £30 spent on it in repairs in that time (tyre). I think it'll limp on for another year until July 16 when we replace it. It passed it's MOT last month. It does very few miles, but is needed.

Thanks for your comments, it means a lot.

the council tax thing. Paying in 12 installments will come out at £123 pm so freeing up an extra £25 pm. However i don't do this as things aren't so critical that i need to free up that cash and i like the idea of two months without the council tax payments as i can use them to save for or buy something decent. Its just personal choice i guess. No financial saving.

Oh and definitely yes to cycling, 10 miles is the perfect bike commute!
