New job when to apply for mortgage?

My husband works full time and I have been a housewife. I have a part time job starting on 1st June for 16 hours per week. (2 young children so unable to work more at present)
We are in a rented house miles from nursery/work and family so are keen to move ASAP. We have found a house that fits the bill but I need to be working for affordability. At what point would it be sensible to approach a broker or make an offer on the property?

If you have proof your job will start on the 1st June you can make an application (with the right lender) now.

We are going through NatWest. My husband started a new job 3 weeks ago but they will not count his income as he has been redundant since January. Until they have 6 months continuous service they won't add it on to affordability. However the in branch mortgage adviser said if push came to shove on affordability they could ask for an exception from head office and put his salary through too. So it is possible!0
