Pink mould in shower

I have pink mould on all the grout and sealant in my shower. I believe this is due to body fat deposits or something - I presume I've overheard Kim & Aggie muttering about it. I clean the shower regularly, believe it or not, but can never shift it completely.

The latest attempt was Cif cream with bleach - dabbed it generously all over, left for a while and then scrubbed. It has shifted some but mainly due to the top surface of grout being scrubbed off and sealant coming away. But there is still a lot of pink there.

Has anyone got any tried and trusted tips to remove the pink? Shower tray is plastic so don't want anything too corrosive.

Not heard of it being body fat deposits, i think its most likley to do with the water as it is also around our shower head too. I just use a bathroom cleaner and hot water, comes off no problem.

    Hi ceri,

It sounds like limescale to me. Pour on some neat vinegar, rub with a cloth, rinse and clean as you normally do.

Funny you should mention this, I noticed this in Pink's shower when I was visiting. :D I'd do what she said to do. ;)

Don't know how MS you want to be, but Ecover's limescale spray is brilliant at removing that pink stuff, I always thought it was something to do with my toiletries.

I don't think it's to do with limescale. I have the pink stuff too and we have very soft water.

    Hi jackieb,

It may not be limescale.

All I know is that there were pink marks in our shower tray (we live in a hard water area). I looked on here and someone mentioned vinegar. I had tried all sorts of cleaners to get rid of it but it refused to shift. When I poured on the vinegar and gave it a wipe it came off really easily.

Hopefully ceri will come back and let us know what worked for her.

We too have this 'pink' and I believe it to be a form of mould working on the areas where soap or toiletries linger. I find a teaspoon of bleach and an old toothbrush get rid of it pronto, until the next time, of course!
