strange calls from debt collection agency, never received any letters

Options
Hi There,
New to this forum, so hope I've posted this on the correct thread
Hoping someone can help with this problem.
In the last week we keep having phone calls from 01294772957 which is Fredrickson international/Fredpay, a debt collection agency, asking for my wife (by her initial and not full name?!) they say they have send a couple of letter, which we have not received and will not go any further until we 'go through security' by telling them our address. I have asked what address they have sent letters to, and what the matter is about, but they will not say.... until we 'go through security' .
As far as I am aware we do not have any outstanding debts, and I'm unable to think what this could be, with the exception of some outstanding self assessment which has been paid to hmrc in full.
Should we go through 'security' next time they call to find out what this is about, at the expense of giving them our address which the obviously do not have.
we have been at this address for upwards of 8 years so I doubt it can be anything recent.
Anyone had similar problems and know the best way forward...
any help much appreciated.
Thanks
sidzz

  • It's what is known as a 'phishing' trip, ie they're trying to find out if somebody is who they think they are, or they're trying to trace someone with a similar name to your wife but they're not sure if it's her.

Next time they ring, tell them you will only deal with them in writing and put the phone down.

Don't tell them your address. Ask her to look on her credit file to see if there are any defaults. If there aren't any, and if she did have any defaults, they are likely statute barred now.
They are probably trying it on, asking you to go through securoty is their way of finding out where you live to annoy you even more.

Just laugh down the phone at them and hang up.

The fact they are asking for someone by the initial just makes their pathetic phishing trip even more laughable.

As above do not 'go through security'. Tell then to do one and block their number. Job done.

    Hi,
Many thanks to all for you replies.
I've ordered a call blocker, but just as suddenly as these calls started they seem to have stopped.
    Fingers crossed.
    Again many thanks
