    I've been looking at their technology pages (Acer Aspire touchscreen desktop PC) and their prices are fantastic. Almost too good to be true so, suspicions aroused, I looked around the website for contact details, VAT and Company Registration, Registered address, place of registration etc. These are frequently omitted from scam or foreign websites giving the appearance of being UK focused/based. I also searched online and found this thread which raised further concerns about delivery times of non stock items.

    I found some of the detail I would expect to see displayed on the website hidden away in the Terms and Conditions but some I could not find on the site (please correct me if I'm wrong).

    The UK's E Commerce Regulations state
    • the name of the service provider must be given somewhere easily accessible on the site.
    • the geographic address of the service provider must be given;
    • the details of the service provider including his or her email address, so long as it allows rapid contact and direct and effective communication. A 'contact us' form without also providing an email address in not sufficient;
    • details of a register, including any registration number, should be provided;
    • the particulars of the relevant supervisory authority if the services are subject to an authorisation scheme;
    • a VAT number, if a business has one should be stated
    The full details can be found by google searching for "The UK's E-Commerce Regulations and selecting the result from out-law.com - sorry as a newbie I cannot paste the link.

    I did find in the T&Cs that the registered company are JRN Retail Group Limited t/a Nigel O'Hara (registered in Northern Ireland at 1 William Street, Portadown, Co.Armagh, BT62 3NX) but as far as I can tell there is no company registration number listed (required), no VAT registration number (required) and no email address (required). It would appear they are possibly a little ignorant of the requirements but genuine.
  • DO NOT purchase from this company!!!!!

    I purchased an item from them and they took my payment straight away. I waited and waited then 3 weeks later my item had still NOT been dispatched and when I contacted them they replied a week later saying my item had been discontinued and was no longer available!!!!!

    I then asked for a refund which they agreed and said it would take 14 days!!!! I've now waited 21 days and still not received my refund!!!!! :mad:

    I've now been to my bank today and they are looking into getting my money back!!!!!!

    DO NOT PURCHASE FROM THIS COMPANY AS THEY DONT GIVE A HOOT ABOUT THERE CUSTOMERS AND OBVIOUSLY DONT LIKE GIVING YOU YOUR MONEY BACK

    :mad::mad::mad:
  • How long did it take for the bank to get your refund as I'm in exactly the same boat and its been 3 weeks since they agreed to refund me and my bank is getting involved now????
  • Update:
    I received my refund from them directly today so now I'm a happy bunny.
    I have to say customer service did respond to all my messages, which is good, it's just unfortunate that Nigel O'hara just couldn't fulfill my order request.
    Good luck to them and hopefully they can iron out the kinks and get back on track.
  • Do not use this company . I ordered a motherboard from this company costing nearly £300. They told me within days that they could not supply it. After several e-mails and phone calls two months later I still hadn't got my money back. They had effectivly stolen my money.
    I finally got my money back from my bank as I had used my debit card to place the order.

    Hi,
    I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with website Nigel O'Hara. I recently bought a dining bench from Nigel O'Hara for around £500 which I opted to pay on interest free credit via their site which turned out was through Close Brothers (who I have heard of actually).

    But I never heard from Nigel O Hara so I contacted them and asked them about the item. They were very polite and apologised and said they were still waiting for the item and would let me know when it came in...but over a month on I'm still waiting for the item!

    However, the credit instalments are now being taken out of my bank. I did a quick google search on the site (which I know I should have done before I purchased) and it's not looking good :( Some customers say they waited ages, some say they had no problems and some say it's a scam site. I still get very legit looking emails from them about new goods etc and I just don't know whether to stop the payments and how easy that will be (will I be refunded the instalments or be penalised?) or just hope it all turns out well. Right now I feel sick in the pit of my stomach thinking it might be a scam...
    Any advice or does anyone have any experience with them. Thank you in advance for your responses

    They seem to be based in Northern Ireland. Are the rules you quoted valid for there, ie the whole of the UK, or just for England/Britain ? I only ask as I know that there are differences in some regulations between England and Scotland, and have absolutely no idea if NI follow the English system...
