My driveway is starting to look a bit old and I would like to get it redone. I've heard of an alternative to tarmac but can't remember what it was. Has anyone had any experience?

I'm not keen on block paving or pressed concrete.

Thanks

There are various coatings that you can get. Google "emulsions" and "resins" with tarmac or "bitmac". Whether these will last any longer and/or be less expensive than just resurfacing with bitumen in the traditional way using a local quarry, I am unsure about.

I heard Resins look good and quiet affordable.

A neighbour had the resin driveway laid recently. A couple of weeks later I noticed some of the stones underneath the resin were loose and a couple of days later you could see there was a fair bit of damage. It was about 2 weeks later by the time the supplier had repaired it and you can clearly see the repair as it's a different shade from the original driveway surrounding it, so be very careful about your supplier and I would say try and do a drive past as many of his customers as you can. Ask him for other customer apart from his agreed reference customers if possible.

Just came on this thread and found it interesting as I am looking for an alternative to my concrete driveway and paths. To lay new tarmac I would need to dig up the concrete and get rid of it which would be hard labour and costly. So this resin idea seems a good alternative as you dont (I think) need to lift to underlying concrete. Anyone suggest a firm that can do a good job and any ideas of cost per metre/yard??
I started out with nothing......And still have most of it left:p

Asphalt is longer lasting than Tarmac, slightly more expensive but worth it.
