Why won't it be possible / practical to work from home?

Lack of space? Too much disruption?

Personally, I made a net saving in my period of home working - less wear and tear on car / fuel costs from travelling, less temptation for buying snacks etc, more personal time available (saved from commuting), easier to fit in personal chores... the list goes on.

    What's your objection?

There are a surprising number of 'rent a desk' spaces. I wonder if there are any convenient to you and if your employer would consider them.

What right does the employer have to designate your own house as their workplace without your agreement?

That's what is effectively happening if the OP has to accept the arrangement or resign.

There could be all kinds of reasons why someone cannot work from home, and it shouldn't be forced upon them. Surely it is up to the employer to provide premises, and they cannot co-opt your house as premises unless you agree or unless your house was named as a potential workplace in the original contract.
