I hate them. I might struggle to get a mortgage as they are on my credit file (settled) not even defaulted. Makes me feel like I've got a shady past when I just had a tough time supporting kids with no maintenance and low paid job.

Yes you likely will, because there is no distinguishing who will have settled these loans on time, that's the real crux of the problem

I have asked the loan company who have simply ignored the question, well not even replied which is starting to say something...

I settled my loan before time and went from poor to fair profile so unless this is a CRA issue, was declined on 'my credit score', can't understand it. Should have known the bank lady voice dropped for a reason in January 2015, only thing I found is they become slightly more inclined to help if it comes to it, then they ever were in the old payday loan day if you've been responsible with the bank account. ;) So in a way these lenders aren't half now shooting themselves it seems. Really for the next re-incarnate.

    Friends don't lend friends money.

Friends gift friends money, or don't.

So last week when my friend forgot her lunch and I lent her money to get something to eat, I didn't lend her money?
    Oh man, that's deep!

So none of your problems were of you own making? I have to ask. As I've often found there to be two sides to the story.

    Hi Thurg,

My problems were entirely of my own making. i blame no one for my debt, i dont even try to claim 'irresponsible lending' as i was earning a significant sum when i built up my debts. however i think you are confused, i have never had a payday loan or indeed any non prime lending at all. nor have i ever struggled to pay my debts.

i am commenting on this as an observer.
    £1000 Emergency fund No90 £1000/1000
    LBM 28/1/15 total debt - [STRIKE]£23,410[/STRIKE] 24/3/16 total debt - £7,298

How would you feel if she didn't pay you back?

If my friend forgot her lunch money I would give her a couple of quid to buy a sandwich and expect her to do the same at some point in future for me. I wouldn't ask her for it back as in my head it wasn't a loan.

To go further - a loan needs a meeting of the minds about the terms of repayment. For example if your friend said to you "lend me £5 as I forgot my lunch and I will pay you next Tuesday", that's a loan with terms.

If she said "lend me £5 and I will pay you when I can", that's not really a loan as she may never be able to repay. If she said "I forgot my lunch" and you said "here have a fiver", that also isn't a loan. So which was it?

Here is a complete transcript of our conversation
Her "oh c**p ive forgotten my lunch"
Me "I can lend you some money if you like?"
Her "As long as that's ok? I'll give it back to you tomorrow"

I did not stipulate an APR or give written T&C's.
Did I lend her money or not?

I like that their new advert says "Please borrow responsibly" - its putting it on par with the drink aware labels for alcohol, because that really stops alcoholics buying too much!!! lol
